The crash was caused by a speed violation by the driver, leading to loss of control.
Two lives have been lost and two others injured as a Peugeot 406 car plunged into a river on the Darazo-Dukku road, on Sunday morning.
This was confirmed by the Bauchi Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Yusuf Abdullahi, who said that the Peugeot car plunged into the river on the Gombe Abba bridge at about 9:08 am.
According to him, the crash was caused by a speed violation by the driver, leading to loss of control, adding that four persons were in the vehicle as of the time it plunged into the river.
“The crash happened on Gombe Abba bridge on Darazo-Dukku highway, 32km away from the FRSC Darazo office.
“The crash involved a private 406 Peugeot with registration number: 06H-04NS. The crash which was caused by a speed violation involved four people.
“The driver lost control and plunged into the river. Two people were killed while the remaining two were injured,” the Sector Commander informed.
He further said that both the victims and the vehicle were subsequently removed from the river and later taken to the Dukku General Hospital in Gombe State, where they were confirmed dead.
“The trapped victims and the vehicle were finally removed and taken to the General Hospital, Dukku, Gombe State, for confirmation at about 4.11 pm.
“Two of them were confirmed dead by a medical doctor at the hospital,” Abdullahi said.
