Business mogul and politician, Mr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has advocated constructive dialogue in the resolution of the face-off between the Federal Government and a micro-blogging platform, Twitter.

Olawepo-Hashim pointed out such dialogue was important because of the mutual interests both parties share in a thriving and unfettered Nigeria cyber market.

He said in a statement on Wednesday that Twitter’s management and Federal Government’s  communication and information handlers must start a dialogue process.

The talk, according to him, should be aimed at resolving the problems leading to the suspension of the platform’s operations.

Olawepo-Hashim said:  “Nigeria needs unfettered Twitter operations to advance the cause of free speech.  Twitter also needs Nigeria, which is now home to the sixth-largest users of internet in the world, numbering 104m.

“The concerns of Nigeria’s authorities over the use of the platform by separatist forces to undermine Nigeria’s unity is legitimate and must be addressed

“Nigeria has a more strategic benefit, in being a trusted player in the cyber market –a market where the country is a promising future power.”

“Both entities cannot, therefore, afford to throw away the baby with the bathwater. There is nothing that dialogue cannot resolve, and that is the reason we should not let this fester.”
