The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has knocked Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for spending N2bn to build a new governor’s lodge.

It also said the resignation of 105 medical doctors from the employment of the state government portends danger for the medical sector in the state.

The Ondo PDP said it was ridiculous and evident that Governor Akeredolu has lost direction by building a new lodge when there are backlogs of unpaid salaries of workers.

State Chairman of the Ondo PDP, Hon Fatai Adams, who spoke at a press briefing in Akure said the building of another governor’s lodge was ‘height of callousness and wakefulness.’

Hon Adams challenged Akeredolu to make public the defect in the governor’s lodge built by former Governor Olusegun Mimiko in 2013.

He said Ondo State was the destination for medical tourism in the Southwest region under the PDP administration.

According to him, “Has the lodge built by Mimiko in 2013 become so uninhabitable such that a new one is inevitable in this perilous time?

“Is it proper or reasonable for a government to embark on a 2-billion naira project that will only serve very few individuals when millions of people are languishing in despicable penury and dying without basic healthcare service delivery?

“We wish to assure the people of Ondo State that the good times they once savoured under the PDP Administration are almost here again. We shall not give up or be overwhelmed by the suffering and hopelessness foisted on us by the APC Government because we can already see light at the end of the tunnel.

“If a society is not fully informed of the atrocious and pernicious nature of the party in government, the people may always be cajoled or beguiled through well-oiled and orchestrated propaganda machinery, into believing that the government is working in the interest of the people.”

On the planned nationwide protest on June 12, Hon Adams said the protest was not what the country needs at this time but a national dialogue to find a solution to the problems of Nigeria.

Governor Akeredolu had last week performed the groundbreaking of a new governor’s lodge saying it would take a “superman to live in the lodge built by Mimiko.”

Akeredolu said it was Mimiko that informed him about defects in the building.

According to him, “This state deserves a Governor Lodge to be a pride to all of us.
When Mimiko was handing over, he mentioned the defects and promised to fix it but he didn’t.

“I called my engineer to look at it and I was told to either bring down the building or part of it. We all knew we are going to need a new Governor Lodge.”
