Miners Association of Nigeria (MAN) has promised to assist the Federal and state governments to increase in Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) through the Mining sector.
The association also decried the influx of illegal foreign miners into Osun State, blaming the development on the closure of mining activities in Zamfara State.
MAN Chairman Kareem Adubi said this at the inauguration of the association’s new executives in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
He said: “There are no mining activities in Zamfara State. This resulted in many of them coming into Osun State. Illegal mining has been on the increase in Osun State. To check the activities of illegal mining in Osun, the Miners Association has to come against them.
“We are in Osun State to help both the Federal and state governments to increase their IGR. We will ensure that any miner that comes into the state gets registered with us so that we can monitor their activities. After registration, we will give them Artisanal Mining (ASM) certificate. This will help to control illegal activities, and there will be proper identification.
“It is very difficult to know the number of miners and mining sites in Osun. This is why we are here for data collection. We will identify mining investors and they will disclose the number of labourers they engage. This will make us to know the number of miners.”
